Target audiance for horror films.

Target audience for horror films

The main target audience for horror films would be young adults. This is because they would legally be able to watch the film, as some horror films have a age restriction of 18, this then would restrict some younger viewers to watching the film and therefore cannot target them. However the age that is targeted mostly would be from 15 to 25, this is because horror movies are thrilling and can excite the younger audience that are just developing emotions and figuring out which films they do and do not like. For example, they might watch a horror film for the first time, and then decide that scary films aren't actually for them, and they prefer comedy. Therefore might even try watching a horror and comedy film and see if that tickles there fancy. Also young audiences are less likely to be put off with the violence and the gruesome scenes that occur, as the older generation may feel abit on edge watching this and may feel them negative towards it all.

Male audiences are most likely to be attracted to horror films, this is because the 'stereotypical' thrill seeker is portrayed with a boy and his hormones. Also in horror movies most of the time the main characters are mainly boys, with the exceptions of some girl characters that are usually involved in the love interest of it all. Violence also play a big part of horror films, and everybody knows that is what men love, men are more into violence and blood then women are and this is what attracts them to the film. ( However sometimes woman like watching horror films with men so they can feel protected and safe with them, and also others find this romantic to watch horror films with there partner) Groups of audience are mostly large groups of children that want to spend the day out and something to do, this would be a good day out aswell as cinema isn't that expensive now days and would be very thrilling for them all to go to. They are also seen to be good conversation starters after the film and this means that usually its a good choice to go and see one so after the cinema they have something to talk to, commonly this would be good on the first date.
