Trailer for Notting hill

Trailer for Notting hill

Notting hill is a romantic comedy, and it has many genre indicators such as starts off with a woman and a man, that you wouldn't generally think would be together as one is rich and very famous, and the other one owns a little shop on the street. In society you wouldn't put these two together but it is suggested that love brought them together and it is meant to be. At the beginning the clips change to show the different lives that they both live and the audience know that they wouldn't work because they are so different however it is obvious that they are going to get together as the voiceover introduce them in a love type theme. That typical line that is very cringe and cheesy was also said "only a moment away from destiny" during the trailer, this is also hinting to the audience that these two are going to get together and the film is going to revolve around them and their love story. We also know that it is a romantic comedy because of the way that they talk to each other, this is different to other films as it is more of a romantic type of way and they are very suttle and calm with each other, and in a way they are nervous when they first speak and this is because they are known to have fallen in love at first sight.

Also, we are introduced to the stereotypical boy best friend, that is known as funny but also very weird and wacky, but is able to make everyone laugh and always in the background. This man was shown when he was eating mayonnaise instead of yoghurt but still carried on and thought it was funny. This was effective in the trailer because it suggested to us that it wasn't going to be all about the couple.. but he would also be there involved at some parts so there would be some humour involved, therefore this could attract some males for the comedy part, but on the other hand they probably wouldn't find it funny as its more of a woman's comedy, as men and woman find complete different things funny.

However, the voiceover and the trailer suggest to us that we don't know if they will end up together or not because it shows us an argument/disagreement and some emotional scenes of the man and woman, this makes the audience wonder if they were really made for each other or it isn't going to last and was fun while it lasted, this will make the audience want to watch it to see what happens but romantic comedies always have a happy ending which makes the audience realise that they will end up together even if they have to fight for it.
